NGC 7479

NGC 7479: Barred SPiral in Pegasus

Imaged on 10/1/06
Scope: Takahashi MT160 (F4.8)
Mount: Losmandy G-11
Camera/Autoguider: SXV-H9c SBIG STV
Exposures: 18 x 5 minutes
Site: Anza Borrego Desert
Temp: 69 degrees, calm, average seeing

This barred spiral is 105 million light years away, making it the most distant object I have imaged, so far.

The asymmetrical pattern of the two arms suggests that a gravatational distortion, possibly from a nearby galaxy, may have taken place long ago.
