Distance: 8.3 light-minutes

Notes: This close-up image of the solar photosphere shows massive sunspots in AR4079.  Sunspots appear dark where termperatures drop to ~3700K from ~5700K. Sunspots are associated with strong magnetic fields and give rise to powerful  X- and M- class flares.  AR470 had just released an M-class flare.
