This emission nebula lies 1500 ly away. IC405 surrounds the bright blue star AE Auriga and associated reflection nebula. The red and purple colors of the nebula are present in different regions and are created by different processes. Light from the hot blue star reflect dust (blue); while surrounding hydrogen gas emits red.
