Elephant's Trunk Nebula winds through the emission nebula and young star cluster IC1396. The Elephant's Trunk nebula is thought to be a site of star formation, containing several very young (less than 100,000 yr) stars. The IC 1396 complex contains many dark globules and dust clouds known as Barnard objects. IC 1396 is 2400 light years away.
